You didn’t buy it, but you own it. This election year is the best time to read the operating instructions of the United States. Get to know the ins, outs, ups, downs, victories, and defeats of your Constitution. This course will reveal influences from Magna Carta to the Great Law of the Iroquois before taking a deep dive into the articles, amendments, and key Supreme Court decisions that, for better or worse, make us “we the people.” There will be lots of historical context and current day consequences as we debate the fine points of representative democracy, including the shame of the 3/5ths compromise, the controversy about the Electoral College, the guarantees of individual liberties and civil rights, and all the issues that somehow didn’t fit into the original document. Hold on to your opinions, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
