ANIME: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE (Week 1)

Each year dozens of new anime are released, but what shows changed the art form? Students will examine shows that reshaped the industry.

Each year dozens of new anime are released, but what have been the shows that changed the art form? There are achievements in animation like Akira, Princess Mononoke, Fate/Zero, and Your Name. There are stories with the depth and complexity like Monster, Death Note, Durarara, and Erased. There are genre defining shonen anime like Naruto, Gintama, FMAB, Gundam, Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, and One Punch Man. There are masterpieces of style and art like Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Bakemonogatari, Spirited Away, FLCL, Mushishi, Steins; Gate, and Mob Psycho 100. Students will do a full tour of all the shows that changed the industry, learn the history of the evolving art form, and explore the ways that certain artists, animators, and storytellers broke the mold to create something truly special.
