The Summer Jam is a fun-packed, intensive music camp designed to immerse inspired students in improvised jams, electronic composition/production, watching outstanding concert footage, and daily guest performances from top-tier touring artists. Through group jams, listening and viewing sessions, technological experimentation, and virtual field trips, students will be led through a rich and diverse musical journey.
We will spend the week actively engaged in a creative environment, where campers will participate in making music together that will strengthen their understanding of rhythm, melody, beats, and working as a band. For a section of each day, students also will dive into the world of electronic music production through the use of Apple’s Logic Pro X or GarageBand, and learn how to produce original music in any style they imagine, from pop music to video game and anime soundtracks. Nearly every day, we will welcome a special (virtual) guest performer from a different genre — from touring rock artists to champion- ship-winning classical virtuosos, remix artists, and world musicians — to perform for the campers. Each week will include one virtual field trip to places like The Grammy Museum, the UCLA Ethnomusicology Department, and more!
*NOTE: This course is being offered as an on-campus/online hybrid. A limited number of Bridges students, prospective students, families, and alumni may sign up for the on-campus camp. All other interested students can enroll in the online version of the course.
