Fellini, Bergman, Kurosawa. Do these names mean something to you? If you are a fan of world cinema, this class is for you. We will be watching respected great directors from around the world, auteurs like the ones mentioned above and many more, like Agnes Varda, Francois Truffaut, and Satajit Ray.

Join us for lively discussions of the art and history of cinema and its crafting, influence on modern directors, and how film can be humanizing, raise awareness, and change how people think.

Students will receive the film assignment to watch on their own and then meet in our online zoom “round- table” to discuss and appreciate the art of cinema.

Please note: these will be “artsy” movies, mostly with subtitles! You must have an appreciation for movies as expressive — not just entertainment — and be able to have respectful discussions around film critique.

Parents just need to ensure their child can access the streaming service, has the time to watch before the class, and if they have a similar interest in world cinema or are willing to continue discussions with them, that’s always a plus!

*This course features a two-week curriculum. Students may sign up for both weeks or just one.
