AT-HOME LEARNING. The Washington Post promises a guide to the best — and worst — of workbooks for kids as young as preschool. The author/mom decided to use workbooks to help fill the hours at home and let her kids test them out. Find out more.

THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT presents an article called “Understanding the Impact of Ed Tech to Prevent ‘COVID-19 (Academic) Slide.'” The article is about a study intended to provide that “understanding” mentioned in the title. UConn says, “This study will have ramifications beyond the current situation… It will help assess if educational technology can prevent closure-related slides from summer break or other unforeseen interruptions due to natural disasters. It will also provide guidance for teaching in remote areas where there are not trained reading specialists.” Find the article.

— Screen time, via Medical News Today: “Researchers from the University of California, Davis, recommend that parents delay introducing their preschool children to mobile screens, such as smartphones and tablets.” Find the study write-up.
— Depression treatment, from MedPage Today: “A recent secondary analysis of the Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study (TADS) identified a symptom cluster in adolescents that was linked with the likelihood of improvement with fluoxetine. Note that these results suggest that clinicians should consider patients’ clinical profiles when selecting therapeutic modality.” Find the study write-up.
