What comes to mind when you hear the word gifted? The image most people see is the super-achiever who sits in the front row, who always has a hand raised, who always gets the A’s. Sometimes that’s true, but not always. Some gifted children have learning difficulties of one kind or another. Estimates of how many vary greatly, anywhere from 2 to 5 percent to as high as 20 percent of gifted children.
While twice-exceptional learners often have plenty of creativity, they tend to have a strong aversion to writing. This piece features administrators and faculty members at Bridges Academy focusing on some common pitfalls that 2e students encounter and provides practical, teacher-friendly ways to help reduce these impediments to written communication.
