SCREEN TIME. Over the years we’ve posted many items on screen time for kids — whether it’s good, or bad, and how. A recent article in The New York Times explains how researchers can come up with different conclusions, even when using the same data. The article also provides some useful advice: try to get a more detailed picture of that behavior. “Ask your kids: ‘What are you doing on there? What makes you feel good? What makes you feel bad?’ ” Read more.

WE MISSED THIS item in mid-December, after the president of the United States dissed teen climate activist Greta Thunberg. It was an opinion piece on attitudes toward disabled people, written by a disability rights advocate who is herself autistic. From the piece: “This attitude is rooted in the notion that children (whether disabled or not) and disabled people of all ages are both incapable of speaking for ourselves, making our own decisions, or having ideas that should be taken seriously.” Find the opinion piece.

IEP TIPS. A parent who is also an educator provides background on why the IEP process might not be successful in some schools, The Education Dive article also includes the results of a survey that, disappointingly, shows few parents rank their schools highly when it comes to the IEP process.
