RUINING CHILDHOODS? A writer at The New York Times sees problems stemming from “a fundamental shift in the way we view children and child-rearing, and the way this shift has transformed our schools, our neighborhoods and our relationships to one another and our communities.” She believes the changes have made kids unhappy and “not O.K.” Some of her suggestions: more free play and independence for kids; and more chances for kids to “learn to be people.” Find her reasoning.
