Joe Renzulli on 2e: Public Policy, Professional Development Key

It has become more common for educational conferences — especially those focused on gifted learners — to dedicate multiple sessions and considerable attention to twice-exceptionality. Topics range from identification to support to strategies and beyond. This is a significant step, says the University of Connecticut’s Joe Renzulli, but there is more to be done. Renzulli, who recently was ranked No. 12 in a 2019 list of top 30 education professionals, believes the creation of public policy and an increase in professional development are key to expanding knowledge of and support for twice-exceptional learners. He chatted with 2e News about the continued emergence of the 2e field. The American Psychological Association named him among the 25 most influential psychologists in the world. He received the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Award for Innovation in Education, considered by many to be “the Nobel” for educators, and was a consultant to the White House Task Force on Education of the Gifted and Talented. His most recent work is an online personalized learning program that provides profiles of each student’s academic strengths, interests, learning styles, and preferred modes of expression.
