GIVING TUESDAY. As you might have noticed from your email inbox, tomorrow is “Giving Tuesday,” a global generosity movement. We at The 2e Resource suggest that if there is a 2e-related non-profit organization that has helped you in the past year you consider contributing to whatever degree is comfortable. Potential candidates might include SENG, TECA. or GHF. Or perhaps consider simply joining one of those organizations and supporting them with your membership fee.

HOW DO SCHOOLS FIND GIFTED STUDENTS? That’s is the title of an article at Education Week reporting on recent survey results seeking input from staff in gifted programs. You’ll see that a variety of groups are considered over-represented or under-represented in gifted programs… and one group is not called out at all. The omitted group, of course, is students with learning challenges. Maybe in the next survey. Find the article.

GIFTED CHALLENGES. Psychologist Gail Post reacts to common tips regarding college visitation trips. She does so from the gifted perspective, noting that some tips “are particularly counterproductive for families of gifted teens ” Find out what she thinks about these visits for gifted kids.

CIVIL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION affect the 2e community. For example, being denied access to a gifted program because of ASD is probably a violation of civil rights. The Council on Exceptional Children notes a new report showing that over the past three years the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights — the office that’s supposed to protect civil rights in education — has made significant changes in the way it enforces civil rights, and perhaps not for the better. TWICE EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY. This group’s online parent support group meets on December 4 to discuss stress, transition, and the holidays. A fee applies for non-members. Find out more.
