Dr. Dan PetersShake that summer sand out of your ears—and possibly win a prize!—by tuning into the premiere of this season’s Crucial Conversations about Cognitive Diversity with Maria Kennedy on Wednesday, August 16th, live at 1 p.m. (PST) Click here to register. To start the year off with a bit of inspiration, especially for those contending with students who feel anxious about returning to school, Maria will be talking to Dr. Dan Peters. The author of Make Your Worrier a Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Child’s Fears, the companion book for children From Worrier to Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Fears, and the host of the popular podcast, Parent Footprint with Dr. Dan, Peters is also the co-founder and director of Summit Center, a psychological and educational counseling service with locations in Northern and Southern California, and accessible everywhere via their website. Anxiety is probably the biggest obstacle to overcoming obstacles, and that constrictive, suffocating feeling is only exacerbated by the multitude of factors confronting the neurodiverse. Peters provides constructive and practical tools for fighting what he calls the “Worry Monster.” As he described it in a recent article for Psychology Today, “All worry is future-based. When we worry, we are thinking about something that ‘could’ happen in the future. The future has not happened yet, and the Worry Monster makes us spend a lot of time in this unknown place. When we ‘live’ in the future, we are trying to predict events and situations that are out of our control, rather than staying in the present moment — the only thing that actually exists.” During the live conversation, Maria will award a prize to the clever listener who correctly answer a pop quiz question!
