THE HECHINGER REPORT just published an article on how schools struggle to serve 2e students. The article is somewhat New York-centric, focusing on families, schools, and organizations there, but provides a good picture of the barriers parents face to obtaining a good education for their 2e children. One wrinkle that might be of interest to parents from other parts of the country: In New York City, the game is to sue the city’s Department of Education for private school tuition reimbursement. NYC pays hundreds of millions of dollars in private school tuition for students with disabilities. Find the article.
BLOGGER TRIFECTA, Three of our favorite bloggers all posted this week.
— Psychologist Gail Post, in Gifted Challenges, provides information on why to see a therapist for yourself or your child, which types to consider, and what to expect. Find Gifted Challenges.
— Psychologist Devon MacEachron provides her perspective and advice on the ways parents can create a rewarding summer for their children. One piece of her advice: “allow for plenty of downtime.” Find her post.
— Jen the Blogger ponders what parents of 2e children need. Part of her rumination: “That elusive something that we G2e parents need…I hope soon we can put it into words and hunt down the answer. Until then, our souls will nonsensically wail together in a chorus of frustration.” Find her (somewhat guttural) post.
